i. hello! this is a very, very canon-divergent & very dear rendition of the warrior of light, from FINAL FANTASY XIV. all of the world building here will be of my own interpretation, so please do not use me or my metas for inspiration.

magitek augmentation after taking the final blow from ultima weapon, pain sears through her entire body----------- & then... she feels nothing. even with all chiurgeons at the scene, runa felt no relief. the ear-splitting crack, the lack of feeling... her spine was snapped. thankfully, with the quick mind of cid garlond, he saved her. while her loss at ultima weapon remains to be a painful reminder, cid's quick thinking gave her a second chance at life. more on augmentation the spine, while serving as a bitter reminder of who she lost, of who she couldn't save, is often hidden beneath her clothing------------- she rarely, if ever shows her back to even her closest of friends, of family. it sends waves of anxiety through her, should anybody even ghost their fingers along the edge of her clothing, & she often shys away from any sort of contact, lest they find out about her reminder .
back scarring runa has suffered many battles in her time as the warrior of light, her more notable scars are from her battle with the ultima weapon , and, her foe, the first scar , sitting directly behind her magitek spine, takes up the entirety of her back, in a jagged, desperate attempt to attach it to her. the second scar , however, sits right above her left hip, with a rather dastardly "x" crossed upon her, as if marking her as zenos's target.

early life,

Born into the Inako clan, a measly 5 years after Doma’s fall, Runa (affectionately nicknamed rjrn by her mother, before passing away after childbirth) was constantly hidden away from the world for being considered an “abomination” under garlean rule. Her father, being the head of the clan and a leader in the Doman Resistance, did his best to make sure she did not suffer from their society’s cruel standards. Runa, knowing that she was different from other children; opted to focus her time & learn ways to be more helpful to her father & to her clan. She, while under garlemald’s thumb, was nothing more than a child who did not belong.However, after 5 years of abuse from Garlemald; it wasn’t long until an insurrection was in motion— with the inako clan backing up the cause, along with several other clans putting it in action. Unfortunately, garlemald easily overpowered them; with their superior technology and war tactics. Runa’s father, Asahi, was forced to pull back the insurrection efforts once he realized that his clan & others were quickly dwindling for a cause that they could not defend. He was devastated at the war’s effects on not only the Inako clan, but Doma herself. Their homeland, a hollow shell of what it used to be. This was not the legacy he wanted to leave to runa, nor did he want to impose the same fate towards his only lineage… & so, with the clothes on their back, and whatever they could pack into their luggage… Asahi took all of his pride, his joy, and his life as a Doman, & threw it all away for the sake of Runa— & any possible future she may have.The inako clan, effectively, were branded as war criminals for the betrayal of garlemald. Along with anybody who had joined in the attempted insurrection.

It had been 10 years since the fall of Doma… Runa and her father, along with any surviving Doman that had wanted to escape… left everything that they had known behind. Asahi had planned everything; however, it was no easy feat. He was to transport as many Domans as he could to Mor Dhona… which is no easy feat, even for the seasoned war general. After several failed attempts, it isn’t until 7th attempt that he is successful. Asahi, along with Runa & anybody who could escape on time, were packed into a cargo ship. For several months… they were on a boat, not even knowing if they would ever truly escape garlemald.
arriving in eorzea,

The months in traveling to eorzea were grueling… as a child, runa did not understand. Everything she knew was left behind thousands of malms away. Once again, did not belong. She was a stranger in her own life, & a stranger in a new land. It was almost crippling at how different eorzea, particularly mor dhona was compared to doma. It was rare that runa left her father’s side to explore, opting to try & learn the language to better assist in any way she can. Despite her being … different, it seemed as if she was more accepted in eorzea than she was in doma— particularly, with hyuran children. It wasn’t long until she learned bits & pieces of eorzean common, at least enough to communicate basic needs and basic communication. Runa was often caught hanging around a certain butcher shop, & despite her memory being fuzzy… she recalls quite often of someone, who shared the unique space of not belonging. Being half-hyur… and something else all together. That butcher shop, & it’s inhabitants, were one of the few places that runa could truly feel as if she… belonged.
garlemald's next attack,

At the age of 10, sounds of celebration & joy soon turned into sounds of anguish and fear. Mor Dhona was at the mercy of Garlemald & all of it’s greed. However, it isn’t long until Asahi is recognized by the Garleans— which led to his capture, & eventual forced indoctrination into the Garlean empire. In his last glimpses of Runa, he begged her to run as far as she could. Even amongst the rubble & destruction— he begged her. To save herself, to save doma, their legacy, their history. Runa, afraid & shaking, ran as far as her legs would take her. Eventually collapsing into herself after what seemed like ages, once again… she was alone. She left behind important memories, her peace… along with somebody else, that she had grown to hold dear.

After settling into nearby villages, Runa spends much of her youth doing odd jobs & simple quests to earn her keep. She needed to survive, & she was determined to see her father again. However, it wasn’t until the age of 15 that something painful had manifested in Runa; visions of a past that was not hers. Inconsolable migraines & body tremors that lead most Chirurgeons to believe that it was aether frenzy, due to her vieran heritage. Earrings were created to help dilute the amount of aether flow being absorbed into her body, stabilizing her temporarily. While this helped soothe the migraine; it did not explain the visions she experienced— it was like an out of body experience. Every mage, saint, and priest she visited could not give her solace to her dilemma. She was left with more questions than answers.

it was times like this, that she longed for her father's embrace. navigating the world from such a young age; with nothing but hope & the clothes on her back, she continues making her way through eorzea & it's terrain.now, the delicate age of 20, she's finally landed in one of the major cities; gridania. she was no longer rjrn, or runa; she was an adventurer. taking on the world to make a proper living, but... those painful visions... they always came back twofold. memories that weren't her own, a profound sense of loss... these feelings, were they really her own? it wasn't until a certain pair of twins, that she realized just who what she was. finally, she had an answer . the warrior of light... and all of her damned glory.After discovering the possible triggers for her painful visions, runa had grown reserved in her affections for others. There were times where she longed for her father’s embrace— navigating the world, even from such a young age… had devastated her when she realized that she may never be able to enjoy the warmth of another’s touch. & so… she quietly travels, hoping that she isn’t remembered anywhere she goes, that she doesn’t grow attached. At the age of 20, she eventually reaches gridania. She is no longer known as runa, or even affectionately as rjrn; she was an adventurer with no connections. Settling in gridania was no easy feat… every time she leaves her previous settlement, starting with a new slate— it took it’s toll on runa.

Memories that weren’t her own, feelings that do not belong to her… every time an accidental brush of skin, or a gaze with strong intent to kill. Runa suffered greatly from these visions and memories. However, it would not drag her down— no matter how many times she was hurt in battle, how many times things seemed impossible… she always found the will to stand back up. Impossible feats, & even greater glory… it wasn't until a certain pair of twins, that she realized just who — what she was. finally, she had an answer . the warrior of light... and all of her damned glory.

| the world lies, shrouded in darkness. the winds die... the seas rage... the earth decays... but the people believe in a prophecy, patiently waiting for its fulfillment. when darkness veils the world, warriors of light shall come. after a long journey... our warrior of light did at least appear... with the blessing of light behind them. |

| azem, the traveler : the xivth seat of the convocation of the xiv. | age ???.
selene, more affectionately named mene by those close to them; was the XIVth seat of the convocation. after taking venat's place, they were known as a benevolent amaurotine. always spreading themselves throughout the land & helping those in need; even going as far as to summon ifrita , lahabrea's invention, to stop a volcanic erruption. because of this, azem grew to be a highly unfavorable opponent; and rather bold person. while becoming unfavored to the convocation, selene still found their solace within emet-selch & hythlodaeus as their companions. most of the records of azem have been wiped; but some say it was like looking like an eclipse : mysterious, powerful, bright. having both qualities of their namesake, & qualities similar to a burning sun... azem was truly a force to be reckoned with.
a realm reborn.

after being forced out of doma by garlean forces, and more devastatingly, the kidnapping of her father asahi, runa is forced to escape to eorzea. not knowing anybody, she starts out in gridania. runa's trust is hardly earned, but after meeting with the scions, she believes that there is still good in the world. for her, it's very hard to open up to complete strangers. she doesn't speak eorzean common very well, but she has picked up quite a bit on her travels. after her first few fights within gridanian soil, the echo has come in full force; & she is recognized as the warrior of light------------- the one and the same of the fables.
↳ crystal tower petitioned by the students of baldesion, runa meets g'raha tia , scion by trade. together, they uncover the secrets of the crystal tower. runa's reconnaissance of the crystal tower, paired with g'raha tia's natural & excellent memory, uncover the secrets of the crystal tower. however, upon it's final doors, runa finds that she can no longer take him with her, and thus, woefully leaves him behind. with him, a part of her stayed within the crystal tower; though she will not admit it.
↳ post arr the events of ultima weapon have changed runa forever. after ultima weapon, she has undergone soul-wrenching recovery------------ & has come out stronger for it. cid, being the genius he is, had make-shifted magitek gear for her survival, a magitek spine brace. it saved her life; but at what cost? the constant reminder of her losses make her ache... but, she treads on.
heavensward.

during her recovery of ultima weapon, runa now heads towards ishguard, where she makes an undeniable impact on the house fortempts. being the house fortempts ward, she is also quite endeared by haurchefant... she is a close ally, and considers herself ishgard's strongest, along with estinien & aymeric . she is thrown into the dragonsong war at the behest of ishgard; something she could not deny for the sake of their survival.
↳ post heavensward the death of haurchefant haunts her deeply. she is a shell of what she used to be, of who she could not save. however, even if his death haunts her so, she begrudingly finds solace in ishgard. she spends her grieving there, at house fortemps. this, after all, was her first of many shortcomings as the warrior of light. she is starting to feel the burden of being reverent.
stormblood.

while reuniting with the people of doma in ul'dah; runa heads to othard to check the status of garlean rule 'pon her soil. it had already been an arduous journey of self & duty------------- discovering her path as the warrior of light. however, 'pon setting foot on garlean soil, she learns of a true menace. zenos yae galvus , the crown prince of the garlean empire. despite her own personal vendetta, runa swears that she'd free all of othard from garlean rule; whether it kills her or not.
however, war never leaves without its claims. her father, in the name of love------------- for his daughter, for his people, had taken his own life, lest he raised his own blade against his daughter. runa, in all of her agony, held his lifeless form & felt years of anger burst forth. it was damn near consuming, & it made her reckless.↳ POST STORMBLOOD within the final opposition of garlemald; runa & zenos have what is considered to be the grand finale. steel meets steel; & while runa's feats have carried her thus far----------------- skill does not outweigh experience. zenos strikes her down, & is saved by estinien's blade. after seeing the devastation left by zenos, she then spends the majority of her time taking on the role of a dark knight ; for those who are lost, for those she can yet save.
↳ post stormblood part ii after recovering from the final battle with zenos; runa's comrades seemed to be facing a different strife. one by one... the scions were falling. while in a catatonic state, they weren't dead; but------------ were the alive? runa, along with scions that haven't fallen yet, look for the cure to their ailment. it wouldn't be until the ailment, which was soon to be discovered; was a summoning, would befall her. an all too familiar voice was heard...

| warrior of darkness - crystaria : dark knight. | age 27.
after being summoned to what is now called the first; runa is met with what is known as a sin-eater. barely making it out by a thread, she's taken to the crystarium shortly after to meet with the crystal ex-arch. she was summoned to save the first from impending doom; & as the crystal ex-arch knew, she was the only one who could save it. despite being the first's last new comer, it seems that she had already missed years of life for her fellow scions. runa is caught up with the severity of the situation; & how devastating the population of sineaters really was. she, along with the scions, work very closely with the crystal ex-arch to cease the ever growing population of sin-eaters, and resetting the balance of the world of the first.
↳ eden raids after traveling to the empty, runa & company find eden. it is said that eden is the first sin-eater, trapped in a stasis forever. after making observations of eden, runa & company revist runa's most horrifying memories & summon the appropriate aether aspected primals, in order to balance the aether flow of the land. there, she eventually meets the ascian, gaia , who holds the seat of loghrif in the convocation of the fourteen. her, & mitron , are both discovered within eden.
↳ post shadowbringers while discovering the roots of eden , runa & the scions finally get to the very route of the first's calamity. runa, while taking an incredible amount of light aspected aether, was almost over-whelmed had she not had help from fellow scions. being saved by the crystal ex-arch, who reveals himself to be an old friend , runa finds it within herself to give the last push & end the pain and suffering of the first by vanquishing it's blight. however... this came at a cost.

the hero's awaited return from traveling across time & space. while no time passed at all in eorzea... runa had experienced what felt like decades with the crystal exarch , & had grown accustomed to life over on the first. however, as it was ripped away from her by fate & time, she realizes that she is empty... it isn't long until she realizes that a few things are... off. she, deep down, has been hearing the voice of hydaelyn , pleading for her help. Unable to call the Warrior directly, she uses a weakened image to speak with her. Hydaelyn, believing that they are prepared for what lies ahead... & yet what awaits is total despair & annihilation. As the conversation ends, Hydaelyn disappears and the Warrior reunites with her companions, disturbed with this information. runa, unable to stay silent about it, seeks out the aid of sharlayan scholars...↳ the final days The Final Days were a catastrophic event in the ancient world of Etheirys caused by a mysterious roar from deep within the planet. This roar triggered the creation magic of the ancients, resulting in the emergence of horrifying monsters. The event began in isolated areas and gradually spread. Although the Convocation of Thirteen couldn't determine the origin, they managed to predict its next occurrence. The Watcher introduced the concept of dynamis, a lesser-known type of aether that played a role in the corruption of creation magic. Urianger realized that Zodiark, a god of darkness, was summoned by the Convocation to counteract the stagnation of aether. Hydaelyn, unable to defeat Zodiark without causing destruction, divided her power and enlisted champions to maintain balance and prevent the Ascians' rejoinings.
